Why You Should Love Being Human
Embracing our divinity
I was not allowed
to be human
not allowed
to be imperfect
not allowed
to have fun
to be in my body
to listen
to my own voice
i was not allowed
to want
just because i wanted
every desire
needed a 10-slide presentation
a justification
a reason good enough
to be approved
and some things
i couldn’t imagine wanting them
they were unspeakable
taboo
so i learned
to shrink my desires
before they could even form
i knew, somewhere,
something wasn’t right
and yet
i thought everything was
because it was all i knew
but tell me
is that fair?
that others chase desire
while you police yours
that they receive
while you are too timid
to even imagine asking
too conditioned
from seeing
you are worthy
simply because you’re a being
what a beautiful thing it is
to be human
to have so much power
and to know it
to transform
from observer
to creator
to return
to the self
you were before permission
was required
to remember
your God-given capabilities
is this not the good news?
the gospel?
that we are free indeed
that we were never bound
only taught to believe we were
that the shackles
were imagined
repeated
inherited
and now
removed
open your eyes
no, really
see
you are flawed
yet powerful
you are biased
and all the more beautiful
you have a heart
of gold
an intuition
that drives you
what a thing, i proclaim
what a thing
to be human
